I am lucky to have a few friends like
N. S. Ramakanth and
M. Lakshimanrayan, who are actively involved with the city of Bangalore issues and really work on it. They are task oriented and want to get things done. They interact with people and move them, not an easy task! I know because I am their opposite and when things are not to my liking I just grumble!
It was a rare occasion when two of them were on the same venue today. I attended a
power nashta at the invitation of
M. Lakshminarayan , who recently went on a
waste trail on behalf of Bangalore City Connect Foundation!

This nashta was at the freedom park, part of an expo titled
'wake up clean up'. The Mayor of the city, The commissioner of BBMP, MLA's, many corporators and deeply concerned citizens and members of active organisations were all present at the
nashta and for the deliberations. The task was clear cut, to get Bangalore regain its name as
a Garden city and not a garbage city as it is now known world wide! Anyway New York Times called it so!
The discussions were positive and a number of commitments were made. As I wondered about Ramakanth,
who has been rendering yeoman service to the city by teaching and propagating solid waste management,
being a
silent spectator, one of the lady corporators
acknowledged the contributions made by Ramakanth. She spoke about his efforts to get her ward to implement
solid waste management and in fact regretted that she was unable to get
them implemented.
It was very positive experience and there is a lot of
gyan and technology developed. All we need to do is to adopt them. May be I will talk about it in another blog and share it with you in detail!

Paradoxically we segregate the refuse at home and it gets mixed up during transport! Therefore the training is required at grass roots.
