Corona times - 2020....33. . Less panic though the Pandemic is relentless. China in focus

The story of one person's fight against Covid 19 indeed touched the hearts of many! (Much more than usual for my blogs.)  That Srikanth was in the hospital fighting it out, was always at the back of our minds as we went about coping with Covid. We became doubly conscious of the need to stay safe, and any inadvertent close contact worried us! The cloud lifted only after he came home and completed quarantine of another two weeks.

If just one case could have such an impact,  imagine the effect of 30 million cases the world over. The deaths, close to a million, was devastating for the families. At the same time, in namma Bengaluru,  people have given up caution. Masks are just slung on the faces, some do not even wear them! As my friend Dr. Raghunath pointed out, people do not seem to understand that a mask is worn for two reasons, to protect oneself and to protect others. You are actually putting others to a greater risk if you do not follow the basic rules! 

Statistics has been the new mantra! The media have totally grabbed the opportunity and it appears the media is running the world! I wonder if UN has become irrelevant? 

We are getting used to the new realities. Covid will not go away soon and it will take time before most of the world population is protected by a vaccine. Hopefully the vaccination plans will be well thought-out and implemented!

 Worldometer, a website churns out statistics of covid 19 among other things. The charts  give us data in many ways! The chart below shows  how the top 20 most populated countries have fared!

 Remember the worry that India, with its huge population and poor healthcare infrastructure,  would have huge numbers of cases and death? The numbers are going up now. 

If we look at the chart from the religion perspective, Covid 19 has been largely impartial. Among the 20 most populated countries, Buddhists have done better! I feel happy as I lived in Thailand!

China, with the largest population, has managed it well. How did they do it? Their numbers are 20 times lower than India and 200 times lower than USA.

There has been accusations that China manufactured the virus. The world (USA?) made a lot of noise. I think some cases are filed against them in the world court! May be, but where does it stand? The media report is that they hid facts about the increase in Covid numbers!  Another report says all this was the outcome of  them preparing for a bio-warfare and our neighbor is said to be involved!

It is also said that they have the drug to prevent Covid but are not sharing it except with those countries which are with them. If so, is it not time for Chini-Duniya  Bhai Bhai (World brotherhood!) to save lives? 

It is known that the world, again USA, looking for a cheap source helped create a manufacturing hub of the world in China at the cost of their own workers. History tells us that it was the Europeans who created the USA, having lost their dominant position thanks to the two world wars they fought. I guess history has a way of repeating itself. 

If you wonder how China is going to act from its position of strength, there are all kinds of predictions in the media! Has Covid helped them to get on top of the world?
