Corona times 2020 --04. The lessons we failed to learn.

Rhea's sketches are so pertinent they give me a subject to blog! Thanks Rhea :-).
It must have been fun to stay at home without school, home work etc., but not for long.

Work from home, learn from home!

We are able to keep sane thanks to the many apps. Tara teaches her granddaughters Leela and Rhea to sing on Skype. She also learns from her mentor Tara Kini.

Just to keep in touch we had family meetings on Zoom or some such app. Kids sang and recited poems.  It was early days and was sort of fun.  My golfing buddies, Bangkok friends connected to chat, we even had a glass of whisky to cheer! We felt happy even if there was a niggle of worry at the back of our mind. No one really discussed future plans.

Connecting to people all across thru my blogs, WhatsApp, Instagram and FB felt good. Most said the lock down was same for them with minor variations. Working from home they said was tougher; their job, taking care of kids, cleaning, cooking and so on. It was not easy in these uncertain times.

WhatsApp connects me to friends by the minute. I have hundreds of videos to watch and delete. Some  Facebook pages have gone insane, pages with misleading names  spewing hatred. It is no more exchanging pictures and feel-good messages.

The media is hyper active. Most of the channels have a bias and an agenda. Tough to watch the over dramatic anchors and the debates which are a shouting match denouncing each other and their political opponents. Unfortunately religion too has crept in. Shekar Gupta's analysis shows how religion has complicated our fight against Coronavirus all over the world. His video talk is about the role religion has played as the true ‘super spreader of Coronavirus.
My humble ardent request to PM: "Lock Down discussion on TVs about Covid 19 please".

The easy access to information is turning out to be a bane rather than a boon. There are articles, outside India, which say that those better-off  are having a cushy time. The rich were rescued from China and other infected countries. While the poor are neglected. They have pictures to show the pathetic state of our migrant workers, who they claim are walking home in millions. There is a gross exaggeration in the numbers and I hope they will be shown as pure lies in time!

One thing is for sure, the poor have been there in India since long. Their lot has improved and more  needs to be done. The poor have always been handy for our politicians. We all know that.

My young friend Nitin claims that we create poor when we hire them as domestic help.              A point to ponder.

We moved into this disaster due to the actions humans took or failed to take. In the twentieth century, the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic was considered the most devastating in modern history.  It is said millions died in India due to Spanish flu.

Many are hopeful that the lessons nature has chosen give us will change the way we live on this planet earth. Hopefully it will happen. But not, if we keep bickering and fighting and generally coming in the way of our government by attacking nurses and doctors. Fighting with police who are trying to keep social distance among people is not right.

Let's work together and support the efforts of our Government, central and states.
Let me quote a senior journalist Shekar Gupta who tells us that "to pray according to our beliefs is okay. But let's not be stupid!"

The situation is grim.
Today's report on worldometer
This is not my usual kind of blog with a bit humor in it.
Let's help ourselves by being responsible citizens of the world.
